Current Deck ideas for WoW TCG Nationals

I made a post a little bit ago about the deck I was considering playing at Nationals one month from now for WoW TCG. The original deck idea is still on the table but two more options have crept into my head that I can’t shake. And it’s almost like a game of rock-paper-scissors.

I wanted to write this post a bit sooner, but the site has actually been hammered due to the popularity of the Mario Party post and I was worried that my hosting bandwidth would be used up already.

Mid-Range Horde DK

The original list was a mid-range Horde Death Knight filled with bombs. Some variation of the list appears in almost every Top 8 that I can find. If every card is a bomb then you are always a constant threat, which is what this deck aims to do. With cards like Saurfang the Younger, Kor’kron Warlord, Scimitar of the Sirocco, and Dethvir the Malignant, it’s filled answers and constant threats.  Scimitar provides an almost ending supply of aggro unless it’s actually removed from the game, and using it to haste a Rehgar or a Thrall can change games.

While still being tweaked, the tentative list can be viewed here: http://www.wowtcgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=4939

The deck has a lot of great answers to the aggro match-up that you will find in the form of Souldrinker Bogmara or Worgen Hunter Rush. Corpse Explosion for non-Worgen on turn 3 or 4 not only eat Brodericks, but generally will wipe a board.

If that doesn’t work, those Worgen are not immune to becoming 3/3 ghouls for you. And with stashed Strangulates, they can’t even counter the spell.

Entombs definitely help with the inevitable Death Wish list but you will find Army of the Dead and Corpse Explosion become dead cards unless they are running a red deck with the quintessential Brodericks.

Death Wish

Speak of the devil. It doesn’t matter that Puncture, Pummel, and Vindicator’s Brand have rotated out of core, Death Wish is still as prevalent and dominant as it was this time last year. And that it means it is an option that has to be considered. The list looks something like this: http://www.wowtcgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=5190

With the nuttiness that is Jin’rokh, The Great Apocalypse a Death Wish deck stays viable as new cards get added and as others rotate out. And until Jin’rokh is one of them, expect to see this deck everywhere.

I’ve been lucky since I have been collecting solo Warrior cards since the game came out. So other than a couple locations and the actual Deathwish, I was able to put this list together almost immediately just from the cards I had.

Solo Blue DoT DK

This is the most experimental deck of the three and I have two variations I am testing out. The current version is a Frost Death Knight with a list like this: http://www.wowtcgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=5206

Frost Strike is a wonderfully good card, especially combined with Ramaladni’s Blade of Culling, as it can effectively timewalk your opponent.

The flip of the start Death Knight hero also negates any type of shenanigans a Shaman might try to pull with the new raptor mount combo just in case you don’t have an instant speed kill card in your hand.

This deck also walks all over aggro with cards like Outbreak, Withering Touch, and Plague Strike. Death Strike can even help reset the clock if you take an early beating.

The alternate list involves running with the the Draenai Death Knight Haedis, giving you access to Ossus the Ancient. Paired up with a Ring of Invincibility, it can make it extremely difficult for decks to get rid of and subsequently do any traditional damage.

Play testing commences again this evening so we will see how each deck does against the shenanigans folks are bringing over tonight.
