Notch just announced on Twitter that Minecraft 1.4 today. He blogs regularly over on Tumblr where you can see all past updates as well. For those interested in words:
- Added tameable wolves
- Added cookies
- Sleeping in a bed now resets your spawn position
- New Minecraft logo
- Holding shift while climbing will hang on to the ladder
- Spiders will no longer trample crops
- Lots and lots of infrastructure for Statistics lists and Achievements
While most of the code is written, statistics and achievements won’t show up until the next update. We didn’t quite have time to finish them this week, and didn’t want to delay the update longer.
The bed change is fantastic, especially if you ever been working on a tall scaffolding only to accidentally let go of your shift key and have to make a 10 minute trek back out to where you were. As for me, I started on the Normandy but I think I might set that bad boy aside for an actual building.
Like Minis Tirith.
Am I the only one who have yet to try this game? It just doesn't seem very appealing at all…
Imagine like Legos really. If you were a Lego fiend as a kid, you can find enjoyment in Minecraft. While games like GTA might talk about a sandbox world, Minecraft is as close to a real sandbox as you can get. But it definitely isn't for everyone. There is no end-game goal. It never ends. It just says "here ya go, have fun" and turns you loose.
Yeah I did play with lego a lot as a kid, but at some point it lost it's appeal… I'm guessing that's why I don't see the appeal in Minecraft. :)
Also, I've tried other sandbox games where you were allowed to construct anything and it just didn't seem all that interesting or rewarding. I guess it could be different in a MMO-enviorment though where others might end up seeing what you create.
Ramble ramble…
I guess there's nothing to it but to try it if I really want to find out what's up. :)
Cheers,
Gav
